That’s the Power of Care

Ee Ching Yin
Senior Staff Nurse, National University Hospital.
Inspired by her aunt’s passion and experiences as a former nurse growing up, Ching Yin decided to follow her footsteps to pursue a purposeful career in nursing. Now a Senior Staff Nurse in a paediatric ward, she works alongside a dedicated team of nurses, doctors, and allied health professionals, to aid children with medical and surgical conditions in their journey to recovery.

One of her greatest joys is witnessing patients recover and get discharged from the hospital. Depending on the severity of each condition, some stay for an extended period or are warded since infancy. A particular experience that stuck with her was caring for a baby who was hospitalised for a little over a year since her infancy. Ching Yin and the team took on the role as her secondary caregivers, attending to the baby’s needs and showering her with care. They even got to watch her achieve multiple milestones in her growth and have built a familial bond with her and her parents.

Such memorable encounters are what Ching Yin cherishes, as these success stories motivate her to continuously provide quality care and a comforting environment for each patient during their stay. Even when challenges arise while communicating with anxious parents, Ching Yin is able to empathise with them, putting herself in their shoes to ease their worries. For her, knowing the difference she can make helps her bridge the gap between them.

Ching Yin’s devotion to her purpose stems from her desire to be a pillar of support for patients and their families during difficult times and make a positive impact on their lives, as she strongly believes that care gives her “the power to influence others as a nurse.”
